Diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of blindness in developed countries. Early detection of diabetic retinopathy is key to preventing blindness. Laser treatment can help to control the disease. A new and improved treatment of diabetic retinopathy is the use of special medication (anti-VEGF medication) that can be injected into the eye to stop abnormal blood vessel growth and reduce retinal swelling.
