What’s Included

The $99 LASIK evaluation includes

A comprehensive assessment at our eye centre to determine your suitability for LASIK surgery based on your individual eye condition and vision needs.

Tonometry test

Measures eye pressure to screen for glaucoma.

Manifest refraction

Measures the eye prescription (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia).

Corneal thickness test

Measures corneal thickness to assess LASIK suitability.

Corneal shape test

Assesses corneal curvature and structure to exclude conditions such as keratoconus (bulging cornea).

iDESIGN analysis

3D mapping of the entire corneal surface for a completely customised Wavefront-guided LASIK treatment, correcting refractive errors in finer increments of 0.01D.

Pupil dilation

Eyedrops are used to increase pupil size to examine the optic nerve and retina.

Consultation with the LASIK eye surgeon

Dr Leonard Ang, corneal and refractive surgeon, will assess the eyes, share results, recommend the most suitable laser eye surgery options and answer your questions.

During & After Surgery

What to expect during surgery

LASIK surgery is a 15-minute out-patient laser eye surgery procedure for both eyes — it is generally considered low-risk with most people experiencing minimal discomfort and pain. During the surgery, your eyes will be numbed with anaesthetic eyedrops.

15-minute procedure

A quick out-patient procedure for both eyes, with minimal discomfort.

Fast recovery

Most people are able to resume most daily activities the next day, thanks to quick vision recovery.

A better quality of life

Enjoy the freedom and convenience of not having to use and maintain glasses and contact lenses.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I go blind from LASIK surgery?

LASIK surgery in itself does not cause blindness. However, if one gets an infection and leaves it untreated, best-corrected vision can be lost.

Will I feel any pain during LASIK surgery?

The surgery is generally comfortable with minimal pain as numbing eyedrops will be used before the surgery.

What are the side effects of LASIK surgery?

There are 2 common side effects — dry eye and seeing haloes and starburst at night. For most, these side effects are temporary, will resolve with time and are usually not significant in the long term.

When can I return to work or school after LASIK surgery?

Most people are likely able to return to work 1 day after LASIK surgery as the vision recovery is quick and discomfort level is low.

What can LASIK surgery correct?

The VISX Star S4 IR excimer laser can correct up to 1,200 degrees of short-sightedness, 500 degrees of long-sightedness and 500 degrees of astigmatism. For those 40 years and above with presbyopia, monovision can be considered to overcome the need to use reading glasses for near work.

Is there any preparation before the LASIK evaluation?

If you use contact lenses, you need to stop using soft lenses 3 days or hard contact lenses 14 days before the LASIK evaluation.

Features of each type of laser eye surgery

LASIK surgery cost starts from $1,731 per eye. Your LASIK surgeon will recommend the most suitable option based on your evaluation results.

Factors LASIK Surface ablationEpi-LASIK, LASEK, PRK, TransPRK SMILE / SMILE Pro
Surgical technique Reshaping of the cornea under a flap, using excimer laser. Ablation of the corneal surface without creating a flap. Removal of a corneal lenticule without creating a flap.
Visual recovery Fast visual recovery. Slower visual recovery and more discomfort in the first few days. Slower visual recovery than LASIK but faster than surface ablation.
Dry eye May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time. May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time. May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time.
Ideal for A wider range of refractive errors, including high myopia and high astigmatism. Thinner corneas and myopia less than 600 degrees. Myopia and astigmatism; not suitable for hyperopia.
Predictability High predictability with correction of high myopia and high astigmatism. High predictability, especially when myopia is less than 600 degrees. Increased risk of haze and scarring for those with high refractive errors. Fairly high predictability; less accurate for astigmatism correction.
Wavefront-guided option Option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment to correct minute imperfections of the eye (higher order aberrations), aiming to achieve a better quality of vision and lesser haloes and starbursts at night. Option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment aiming for a better quality of vision and lesser haloes and starbursts at night. No option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment, hence is unable to reduce higher order aberrations.
Corneal tissue Removes more corneal tissue than surface ablation but lesser than SMILE / SMILE PRO. Benefits thinner corneas as it removes the least corneal tissue. Removes the most corneal tissue.
Our LASIK Technology

iLASIK laser eye surgery

A 100% bladeless customised Wavefront-guided treatment that corrects myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia in finer increments of 0.01D. iLASIK also removes unique imperfections of the eye (higher-order aberrations) that cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or non-Wavefront-guided technologies, aiming for a better quality of vision and lesser haloes and starbursts at night.

Step 1
iDesign Advanced WaveScan

Creating your personal vision profile

Determine the individual characteristics of your vision with our iDesign Advanced WaveScan Technology, which creates a clear 3D map of the unique imperfections of the eyes in real time. These images are unique to every individual eye.

Step 2
IntraLase Bladeless Technology

Creating the iLASIK corneal flap

The iLASIK procedure uses the 100% bladeless IntraLase Method to create your corneal flap, which the LASIK surgeon folds back to perform the iLASIK procedure.

Step 3
VISX Advanced CustomVue®

Wavefront-guided LASIK technology

Your vision is corrected using the VISX Advanced CustomVue Wavefront-guided treatment, which uses digital information from the WaveScan to design a customised treatment. The VISX excimer laser reshapes the corneal tissue under the flap, which is then returned to its original position.
