THE $99 LASIK EVALUATION INCLUDES:
Tonometry test
Measures eye pressure to screen for glaucoma.
Manifest refraction
Measures the eye prescription (eg myopia, astigmatism).
Corneal thickness test
Measures corneal thickness to assess LASIK suitability.
Corneal shape test
Assesses corneal curvature and structure to exclude conditions such as keratoconus (bulging cornea).
iDESIGN ANALYSIS
3D mapping of the entire corneal surface for a completely customised Wavefront-guided LASIK treatment. Aims for a better quality of vision as it corrects refractive errors in finer increments of 0.01D and removes unique imperfections of the eye.
Pupil dilation
Eyedrops are used to increase pupil size to examine the optic nerve and retina.

Features of each type of laser surgery:
LASIK
- Fast visual recovery.
- Able to correct a wider range of refractive refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism) compared to surface ablation and SMILE.
- Able to correct hyperopia or presbyopia.
- High predictability with correction of high myopia and high astigmatism.
- Option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment to correct minute imperfections of the eye (known as higher order aberrations), which can achieve sharper vision and lesser haloes and starburst at night.
- May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time.
- Flap dislodgement after a month is rare; can engage in contact sports.
Surface ablation
Epi-LASIK, LASEK, PRK, TransPRK
- Slower visual recovery and more discomfort in the first few days.
- High predictability, especially when myopia is less than 600 degrees.
- Able to correct hyperopia or presbyopia.
- Option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment aiming for sharper vision and lesser haloes and starbursts at night.
- Increased risk of haze and scarring for those with high refractive errors, such as above 500 or 600 degrees.
- Benefits thinner corneas as it removes less corneal tissue.
- May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time.
SMILE / SMILE Pro
- Slower visual recovery than LASIK but faster than surface ablation.
- Unable to correct hyperopia or presbyopia.
- Less precise in correcting astigmatism compared to LASIK, Epi-LASIK and LASEK.
- No option of a customised Wavefront-guided treatment, hence is unable to reduce higher order aberrations.
- Removes more corneal tissue.
- Fairly high predictability; less accurate for astigmatism correction.
- Unable to enhance if needed.
- May result in dry eye initially but will improve or resolve with time.

STEP 1 / iDESIGN ADVANCED WAVESCAN – CREATING YOUR PERSONAL VISION PROFILE
Determine the individual characteristics of your vision with the use of our iDesign Advanced WaveScan Technology which creates a clear 3D map (WaveScan) of the unique imperfections of the eyes in real time. These images are unique to every individual eye.
STEP 2 / INTRALASE BLADELESS TECHNOLOGY – CREATING THE iLASIK CORNEAL FLAP
The iLASIK procedure uses the 100% bladeless IntraLase Method to create your corneal flap, which the LASIK surgeon folds back to perform the iLASIK procedure.
STEP 3 / VISX Advanced CustomVue ® Wavefront-guided LASIK technology
Your vision will be corrected using the VISX Advanced CustomVue Wavefront-guided treatment which uses the digital information from the WaveScan to make adjustments and design a customised treatment for the eyes. The VISX excimer laser reshapes the corneal tissue under the flap. The flap is then returned to its original position.
What To Expect During Surgery & Post-Surgery?

FAQs
What can LASIK surgery correct?
The VISX Star S4 IR excimer laser can correct up to 1,200 degrees of short-sightedness, 500 degrees of long-sightedness and 500 degrees of astigmatism. For those 40 years and above with presbyopia, monovision can be considered to overcome the need to use reading glasses for near work.
Is there any preparation before the LASIK evaluation?
If you use contact lenses, you need to stop using soft lenses 3 days or hard contact lenses 14 days before the LASIK evaluation.
What are the side effects of LASIK surgery?
There are 2 common side effects – dry eye and seeing haloes and starburst at night. For most, these side effects are temporary, will resolve with time and are usually not significant in the long term.
Will I feel any pain during LASIK surgery?
The surgery is generally comfortable with minimal pain as numbing eyedrops will be used before the surgery.
When can I return to work or school after LASIK surgery?
Most people are able to return to work 1 day after LASIK surgery as the vision recovery is quick and discomfort level is low.
Can I go blind from LASIK surgery?
LASIK surgery in itself does not cause blindness. However, if one gets an infection and leaves it untreated, vision can be lost.
