The cornea is the central clear transparent window of the eye. The cornea may be become diseased or hazy from a wide variety of eye conditions, resulting in progressive haziness of the cornea and loss of vision. These diseases include infections and injuries which result in corneal scarring, or swelling and cloudiness of the cornea due to damage or ageing of the innermost layer of cells of the cornea (known as the corneal endothelial layer).
A corneal transplant involves replacing a diseased or scarred cornea with a donor cornea so that vision can be restored. This is a highly specialized procedure which is performed by a cornea specialist. Dr Ang is internationally recognized as an expert in the field.
