LASIK Evaluation
You are required to undergo an evaluation to determine your suitability for LASIK surgery. The process consists of a number of eye tests and a consultation with the eye surgeon.
Before coming for the evaluation, you will need to stop using your soft contacts 3 days or hard contacts 14 days prior to the evaluation.
You can expect the whole process to be about 3 hours. Do bring your sunglasses along as your eyes will be dilated for the evaluation which may increase your sensitivity to bright lights, a condition that wears off in about 4 to 6 hours.

Evaluation Process:
Visual acuity test
The standard vision evaluation to determine the smallest letters you can read on a Snellen chart placed 6 metres (20 feet) away.
Tonometry test
To measure the pressure inside your eyes. Using a puff of air aimed at your eyes, the test is used to screen for glaucoma.
Manifest refraction
The standard method to measure your eye prescription by placing various lenses in front of your eyes.
Corneal thickness test
Using the Zyoptix Diagnostic Workstation (ZDW) to measure the corneal thickness for LASIK suitability.
Corneal shape test
Using the ZDW to assess the corneal curvature and structure for conditions such as keratoconus (bulging cornea).
iDESIGN ANALYSIS
Allows for accurate 3D mapping of the entire corneal surface to determine the level of refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism) for a completely personalised LASIK treatment.
Pupil dilation
Administering eyedrops to increase the size of your pupils for the eye surgeon to fully examine the optic nerve and retina. You will experience blurry vision post-dilation. If you are short-sighted, remove glasses and put things close to read. Far vision is unaffected. This will last 4 to 6 hours.
Counselling
While you wait for your pupils to be fully dilated, our counsellor will bring you through the various aspects of the surgery including the types of laser surgeries, the surgical process, benefits of the surgery, possible side effects and risks and expectations and recovery.
Cyclo refraction
Your eye prescription is measured again by placing various lenses in front of your eyes when your eye muscles are relaxed after pupil dilation. This is to ensure the refractive measurements are accurate. For those who are short-sighted, glasses will need to be removed and things need to be placed nearer to the eye to read the next 4 to 6 hours.
Consultation with the eye surgeon
After all the tests are completed, our eye surgeon will share the results and recommend LASIK surgery options based on the condition of your eyes, your occupation, and your desired lifestyle. Feel free to ask questions and clear any doubts you may have.
