LASIK Suitability

While LASIK surgery is suitable for most people, there is a small group of people who may be excluded (see checklist below).

Suitability Checklist

You need to be at least 18 years old as vision may change dramatically during adolescence. If you are below 21 years old, you need to obtain your parent’s consent.

Your eye prescription must remain stable during the past 12 months.

Your eye prescription must be within the following ranges:

  • 75 to 1,200 degrees for myopia (short-sightedness)
  • 75 to 500 degrees for hyperopia (long-sightedness)
  • 75 to 500 degrees for astigmatism

Your corneas must not be too thin or bulging out (keratoconus).

You should not have cataracts or glaucoma.

You should be generally healthy.

You should not be pregnant (for females) as hormonal fluctuations may affect the vision during pregnancy.
