Post-LASIK Surgery Advice

Post-op Reviews

After your LASIK surgery, you will need to return at least 3 more times to track the progress of your recovery.

  • 1st Review: 1 day after surgery
  • 2nd Review: 1 week after surgery
  • 3rd Review: 2 months after surgery
  • 4th Review: 3 months after surgery (Epi-LASIK only)

Depending on your recovery and condition, the eye surgeon may schedule further reviews. You are required to attend all reviews to ensure that your recovery is quick and complete.

Recovery

LASIK: Most people recover about 90% of their vision the very next day with complete recovery expected in the following weeks or months. Able to return to work the next day after surgery.

Epi-LASIK/LASEK: Most people recover about 75% of their vision 5 to 7 days after surgery with complete recovery expected in the following weeks or months. Able to return to work 5 to 7 days after surgery; can be earlier depending on recovery.

Dos and Don’ts

Please take note of the following to ensure that your recovery is smooth and free of complications:

It is normal to experience discomfort, irritation, tearing, and sensitivity to light during the first 24 hours after surgery (up to 2 to 3 days for Epi-LASIK/LASEK patients).

Apply the given eyedrops as instructed especially during the first 24 hours.

Use the eye shields provided to protect your eyes (keep them on while sleeping during the first 4 days to avoid accidently rubbing your eyes).

You may engage in the following:

  • Use electronic devices if you see well enough.
  • Use sunglasses if the sun or lights are too glary for your eyes.
  • Return to work 1 to 3 days after the surgery if you can see well enough.
  • Do light exercises such as gym-work and jogging 3 days later.
  • Travel by plane 3 days later.
  • Go for a facial 7 days later but avoid rubbing the area around your eyes for 1 month.

Do not wash your hair or face during the first 24 hours. You can do so after that but ensure your eyes are closed to prevent water or soap from entering.

Do not apply eye makeup during the first week.

Do not go to smoky and dusty places during the first week.

Do not rub your eyes during the first 2 weeks.

Do not engage in water activities or contact sports during the first month.
