Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) Surgery or Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation

imgRS9Surgical implantation of a phakic intraocular lens can help to correct a patient’s refractive error such as shortsightedness, astigmatism, hyperopia, and presbyopia.

The operation involves inserting an artificial lens into the patient’s eye. The lens is inserted through a small incision at the edge of the cornea and is placed behind the iris and in front of the natural crystalline lens.

The most widely established phakic intraocular lens is the Visian Phakic Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL). The Collamer lens is made from a polymer with collagen, which is very biocompatible.

Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) Surgery

ICL surgery can correct a wide range of refractive errors. It can correct refractive errors from 1,000 degrees of long-sightedness to 1,900 degrees of short-sightedness, with up to 500 degrees of astigmatism (+10.00 D to -19.00 D).

The surgery is a simple and painless procedure that takes about 15 minutes. Once implanted, the lens is invisible to the naked eye. The wound heals on its own without stitches.

Benefits of ICL Surgery

Suitable For Patients With High Refractive Errors And Thin corneas

The ICL surgery does not cause any alteration to the shape and structure of the cornea, which makes it suitable for patients with high refractive errors (above 900 degrees) and thin corneas.

High-Definition Vision With Lesser Side Effects

Better quality of vision and night vision, even for those with very high degrees. There are lesser night vision phenomena such as halos and starbursts with ICL surgery compared to LASIK surgery.

New and improved Visian ICL with CentraFLOW

This eliminates the laser procedure, shortening procedure time and enhancing the overall patient experience.

Fast Recovery

Most patients are able to return to work or school within a few days with minimal discomfort and no dry eyes after the ICL surgery.

Reversible ICL procedure

The ICL surgery is entirely reversible and the lens can be removed if necessary.

Why Choose Lang Eye Centre for Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) Surgery or Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation?

Experienced and Trusted ICL Eye Surgeon in Singapore

Our world-renowned Senior Ophthalmologist Dr. Leonard Ang specialises in Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) surgery and has a proven track record in phakic intraocular lens implantation in Singapore.

New and Improved Machine for ICL Surgery

Lang Eye Centre is one of the first centres to introduce the new and improved Visian ICL with CentraFLOW, which provides better refractive outcomes and patient comfort.

The previous version of the ICL required an additional laser procedure known as a peripheral iridotomy which creates 2 small holes in the iris. The innovative design of the Visian ICL with CentraFLOW has a central port (Aquaport) which eliminates the need for any laser procedure, shortening the procedure time and enhancing the overall patient experience. With the addition of this central port, IOP remains stable and refractive outcomes are excellent.
